Encyclical of 17 April 2003

Instituted Lector reads at cathedral

I attended the Holy Thursday eucharist at St Patrick's cathedral in Melbourne last night.

I was impressed that an instituted lector, Paul Pavlou, did one of the readings, wearing vestments. It was also good to see a deacon, Tony Doran, proclaim the general intercessions.

Not that things were perfect. Paul did not sit in the sanctuary. The other reading was done by Harry, who did not wear vestments and (to the best of my knowledge) has not been instituted as a lector. I stood for the Kyrie and Gloria, but not many others did.

But the improvement suggests the new encyclical has already had some impact.
